Jane the Virgin
Ok, so I'm a little late into this whole Netflix and Chill business that's why it took me a while to discover Jane the Virgin, but once I watched the first episode, I was hooked.
The storyline is fast-paced and the twist and turns will leave you gasping. There is a big similarity with Ugly Betty in the sense that they both poke fun at telenovelas and have a largely Hispanic cast, not surprisingly, I also loved Ugly Betty. Another similarity between the two series is the fashion. But while Ugly Betty had its fashion magazine setting to draw sartorial inspiration from, Jane the Virgin gets its groove from its Miami roots. It's perfect weather everyday in sunny Miami, hence the characters rock their summer frocks big time and rock them hard.
When she isn't wearing her waitress uniform, which incidentally is the prettiest uniform I've ever seen, Jane dons mini-dresses in fit-and-flare styles.
All the Marbella Hotel waitresses wore the same halter mini dress, but they had different necklaces. So cute!
Petra takes her role as the wife of a hotel owner seriously but without going all-out corporate (this is Miami after all!) by outfitting herself in pastels and shimmer.
Even Jane's mom, Xiomara, knows how to work it.
I'm just on the 4th episode for the first season, so I still have a lot of catching up to do. If you guys need me this weekend, you'll know where to find me: on my couch, with some munchies on my lap, laughing my head off at that crazy bunch from Miami.
