When it comes to fashion, I have always thought that the French have everyone else beaten by a mile and a half. I attribute this to the books and movies I've been exposed to that laud and trumpet everything about France, from their fashion, parenting style, gourmet etc. etc. But Marie Claire magazine's recent photo editorial (the one with Natalie Portman on the cover) blasted open all of my assumptions and now has me curious about exploring other styles and even going beyond my Francophile leanings.
Check out how the Italian and Russian style mavens worked it during fashion week.
The colors! The patterns! The bling! They make fashion look so fun and exciting.
Compare the two collages with that of the French magazine editors.
Doesn't French fashion now seem blah and tepid?
But despite all that, I'm still drawn towards French style because it just suits my personality more. Which is not to say that I consider myself blah, but like the French, I prefer classic, chameleon-like pieces I can wear over and over again, instead of statement, attention grabbing wear that will be very noticeable if worn again. However, I think I'll inject my wardrobe with more fun accessories and indulge in trendy items every now and then, just to spice things up. After all, fashion should be fun.
