The Great Foundation Search

Alright, so there's nothing really great or grand about my search for next foundation. But every time my current foundation starts to run out, I go into overdrive researching my next foundie. It's kind of exciting really and I scan blogs and Makeupalley with as much concentration as I would an automatic appeal for a heinous crime, although the former is infinitely more fun and less heartbreaking.
After years of using MAC Studio Fix and other full coverage foundations, I have realized that less is more when it comes to my base. Even when I suffered from acne, I didn't like slapping on thick foundation because who was I kidding? No amount of foundation could fully conceal my breakouts, so I might as well work on healing and prevention, rather than covering them up with makeup.
Anyway, I now favor tinted moisturizers or light foundations over medium to full coverage ones. I like having full control with buildable coverage and I like the "my skin only better" effect that tinted moisturizers or sheer foundations give me. So far, these are what made the cut:
VMV Skintangible "Faint"ation Skin-Refining Non-Makeup

BB But Better. Ultra-light + natural-looking: a uniquely “I-can’t-put-my-finger-on-it-but-wow-your-skin-looks-sublime” finish. One shade, all skin tones. Antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory benefits. Purely mineral sun + light protection, too. Skintriguing.
Don't you just love VMV's play on words? Skintriguing. Skintastic. Skinamazing. Good job to their over-caffeined copy team.
This is actually my first choice because I love the brand and am proud of its local roots, but this baby is always out of stock. ALWAYS. So sad :(
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20- Oil Free

What it is: A perfect blend of skincare and makeup that helps control oil breakthrough and gives skin a sheer hint of colour for a healthy, natural glow..
What it is formulated to do: Laura Mercier created this product to give skin a healthy ‘no-makeup’ look with a soft hint of colour that evens and enhances without hiding the skin. This oil-free lightweight formula provides ideal protection from the sun’s harmful, damaging rays with broad spectrum SPF 20 UVB/UVA sunscreen. Perfect for all skin types, especially sensitive or oily skin.
This is the It product when it comes to tinted moisturizers, garnering so much love and rave that I'm thisclose to jumping on the bandwagon and grabbing a tube for myself.
Benefit Cosmetics "Hello Flawless!" Oxygen Wow Liquid Foundation

Hello...it's flawless time! Our new oil-free brightening liquid foundation builds from light to medium coverage for a natural complexion you can believe in. It's you...just more luminous & healthy looking.
A relatively recent release so it doesn't have as big a fan base as LM's Tinted Moisturizer, but those who love it, love it with a passion that won't quit! Sadly though, it's intended for dry skin and probably won't last on oily skin like mine. But maybe a little primer will help it along?

What it is:
A weightless and virtually invisible liquid foundation that creates a luminous, demi-matte finish.
What it does:
This formula helps skin achieve a natural, illuminated and bright finish— like the beautiful skin you were born with. Naked Skin is formulated with light-diffusing spheres, transforming you to look professionally retouched. Buildable coverage allows women to customize their look. Available in a meticulously calibrated range of shades, Urban Decay’s precise shade numbering system does poetic justice to both warm tones (ending in “.0”) and cool skin tones (ending in “.5”). The finish is matte, never flat, and luminous, but not shiny.
I am such a fan of Urban Decay's Primer Potion and the Naked palette that when it came out with Naked Skin, I was all set to snap it up in a hearbeat. Unfortunately, this isn't available locally and I'm too cheap to buy a full bottle without testing it first. So this remains a dream for now.
Now I'm turning the question over to my dear readers, what foundation would you recommend?

I've been trying to get a hold of VMV's skintangible makeup but yes, it is always out of stock. I tested Benefit's Oxygen wow liquid foundation but I can't seem to find a perfect shade.
I do like MAC's fluid fix foundation but since it's too heavy, I only use it for special occasions. However, I find that I keep coming back to Revlon's Photoready foundation. I use both the regular liquid foundation and the airbrush foundation. It's good even for everyday wear. :)
I can send you my bottle of VMV Skintangible if you want to try it. I prefer using its more bad ass sibling - VMV Skin Savvy 60. I use it to even my complexion out (I don't put it all over my face. I know that sounds weird but it works for me hehe.), then I dust Bobbi Brown mineral foundation all-over my face.
Speaking of bad ass, Revlon Colostay Whipped Crème Makeup is really good. It covers most things, it feels super light, and it still looks like skin. The only downside is that the colors are a little too pinky/peachy for me, so I correct that by setting it with the Bobbi Brown (which has a lot of yellow). (I can send you a little pot of this too if you want to try it out hehehe)
MUD cream foundation is pretty good too. It's practically a concealer, but you can easily sheer it out for daily use with a sponge or by mixing it with some primer. The price isn't so bad either (500+ for a refill pan which lasts forever)
I've sort of gone back to mineral foundation because the best color matches I've found have always been mineral foundations and they don't cause me to break out. The Bobbi Brown mineral foundation is a really good color match, but I still prefer Lauress (price, color, and formula)
Really? You'd give me your bottle of VMV Skintangible? Thanks so much Rich! You're now my super favorite Washi Machine:p
As for mineral makeup, I agree with you. I used mineral makeup when I first started wearing makeup and there was something about it that strengthened my skin or something to that effect because I could already wear traditional makeup after that, without breaking out in blemishes or rashes.
i have very oily skin and one product that works for me is body shop's bb cream (green and silver tube).it's a little thick so i apply it after putting a bit of neutrogena oil on my face.human nature's sunflower oil also wrks as a good base.
I gave up on BB cream a long time ago, never found my shade and when I did find a close enough shade, it made my face too white. Although I actually got compliments at how "maputi" I was when I wore BB cream. Strange.
Sorry, I meant the Healthy Mix foundation was a bit heavier for my taste, not the serum.
And yes, for someone who doesn't wear foundation regularly, I've tried. Thanks to my precious Girltalk shade sisters who willingly decant their foundies/share samples! :-)
I don't like wearing foundation/TMs/BB creams, but on special occasions like weddings etc, I turn to the only foundation that does not irritate my skin - Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. It's also one of the few that match my skin (the other one is the now discontinued Shu Uemura Smoothing Fluid in 974.) I use the shade B10. I love the light coverage, and for some reason, it does not bother my skin.
I've tried Clinique, Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk, NARS, Becca, RMK, Shiseido, etc, and most of them made my skin itchy by the end of the day. Some, right after application (NARS Sheer Glow and Tinted Moisturizer, I'm looking at you.) Some just didn't have my shade (I like wearing the exact color - I feel conscious when I wear foundation because I am not used to wearing it regularly, and I feel more conscious if the shade is even the tiniest bit off.)
That said, I was pleasantly surprised at the new L'oreal Lumi Magique foundation. When I swatched it, it reminded me of a smoother, thinner GA Lasting Silk. However, the closest shade we have here (N2) is a bit too orange/peach for me. I hope we get more shades here. I think I'm a W1-2. At least, based on MakeupAlley and Youtube gurus.
Oh, I remember I also liked Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer a couple of years ago. I got it as part of a set. But I think it's been discontinued. Also, I like the Bourjois Healthy Mix serum (I think I'm a shade 52) but it's sadly not available here. :( The Healthy Mix serum was a bit heavier for my taste.
Becca's not in my list because I already tried its tinted moisturizer/light foundation (forgot what it's called).
For someone who doesn't wear makeup often, you sure have a very impressive list of foundations that you've actually tried! Ikaw na :)
The secret is finding your shade sisters in Girltalk. ;-)
I know! It looks like that's the best way to go.

I'm currently using bobbi brown foundation stick. I really like it, but I can't say it's the best. (Pero it's definitely gonna be in the rotation)
Ooohh...will be checking that out soon.
