Project Runway Philippines season 3 - Where Personal Bias Overflows
I've been hooked on Project Runway Philippines season 3 ever since it premiered last March 25, but unlike season 1, where I reviewed every episode, and season 2, where I churned out sporadic reviews until work got in the way, with season 3, I don't find myself as inclined to write, simply because I know I'll be biased and I'll probably just embarass myself by revealing my lack of fashion know-how.
First things first, one of the contestants, Milka Quin-Redoble, is my uncle's wife, making her my aunt. But since she's only a year older than me, it seems weird to call her Tita Milka:p
Anyway, to date, Milka has won 2 challenges and seems to be a consistent favorite among the judges. Basing from her performance and my pure and unadulterated bias, I predict that she'll be part of the top 3 and is now currently making her final collection.
Nope, I have no idea who made it to the top 3 and I'm not going to ask Milka either, because for sure she has an iron clad contract with a clause on keeping the results under wraps, or else she'll be slapped with damages amounting to millions of pesos. Ouch.
Another thing that's holding me back is that my predictions are so far off from the actual results. Case in point, in the first episode, I was disappointed with Milka's dress because it seemed so ordinary.
So you can just imagine my surprise when the judges raved about out how well-executed her "balyena" dress was, and she even won the challenge to boot.
Or like in Episode 4, I was so sure that Jenno Gacasan and MJ Alminanza would get slammed for those "things" that they sent out the runway.
But lo and behold, the judges loved their over the top bridal wear! Rajo Laurel even said that he couldn't wait to email photos of those dresses to Lady Gaga.
Clearly, I should expand my aesthetics beyond "It's nice because it's something I can imagine myself wearing."
I'm going to go a little off topic now because I just have to ask, where is Teresa Herrera?!
Tweetie De Leon is gorgeous and is an icon in the industry, but Teresa was a much more effective host in my opinion. Tweetie seems too stiff and even over rehearsed at times (specially when she's reciting the prizes at stake), while Teresa was much more natural in front of the camera.
Although to be fair, I do enjoy listening to the judges when they deliberate, and Tweetie shines during these powwows because her comments are obviously backed by her decades long stay in the fashion biz. You can't argue with wisdom culled from experience folks.
Episode 5 hints at even more squabbling beckies, with Ruffa Gutierrez as the special guest. Exciting stuff! Thanks PRP for giving me something to look forward to every Sunday night :)
Kudos to ETC for coming up with a comprehensive website for season 3!
