Thoughts on Unofficially Yours
I finally caught "Unofficially Yours" last night at Resorts World cinema. For a mere 20p more, we had better seats, more legroom and fantastic sounds, and Resorts World is nearer to our house than Town Center, so hello new hangout!
Anyway, before I forget, let me just jot down the thoughts that ran through my head while watching this John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin rom-com.
- Good on Star Cinema for coming up with an easy to remember title as opposed to another cheesy song title (i.e. Won't Last A Day, Babe I Love You, Till I Met You). I swear, I have a hard time distinguishing movies from one another when they use songs as their movie titles and end up referring to the actors and actresses in it.
- A chubby and jelly tummied John Lloyd is way more attractive than a buffed up Derek Ramsey. Promise, I find John Lloyd's "ordinariness" more appealing that Derek's adonis-like perfection.

- Speaking of Derek Ramsey, they showed the trailer for his "Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang" with Erich Gonzalez and it seems like a lame movie. So their child dies in childbirth then she goes nuts and makes a pact with the devil, what did she get in return? They didn't show the child's resurrection, so why would Erich go over to the dark side? You know what, I don't even care enough to know.
- Back to Unofficially Yours, Angel has inspired me to paint my nails red and wear leather bracelets stacked on my wrist, kind of like these Pandora beauties:

- The loose blouse tucked in skinny jeans and sky high stilettos, is a good look for Angel Locsin because they play up her curvy figure in a classy way. Although I wonder if reporters really wear killer heels like those because how can they pound the pavement and chase after their stories if they're in constant danger of tripping and breaking their ankles?
- I totally agree with my friend Jayson that it's great that John Lloyd was given a believably chubby movie family. Edgar Mortiz is so adorable! His line: "Joke din na hindi kami natawa sa joke mo" cracked me up.
- Was this Andi9's first movie? Carry niya ha.
- Bloggers can learn a thing or two from the Executive Optical scene where Ces chastised Mackie for picking up so much swag: "Ingat-ingatan mo ang pagpulot diyan kasi paano mo babayaran yan pag siningil ka na?" Or something to that effect.
- Those successive sex scenes were hilarious and John Lloyd and Angel have great chemistry, Phil Younghusband is hot, but I think John Lloyd and Angel can work in real life. Step aside Shaina.

- Angel is HAWT! Skinny girls should eat a burger and take their cue from her.
- Mackie's (JLC) girlfriend dependence issue deserved more screentime and I don't think it was ever resolved. Was the "I'll continue working in the Bulletin even without Ces there" it? Yun lang?
- Ces' (Angel) revelation to the cause of her commitment phobia was not really a surprise, but Patrick Garcia as her ex was. In fairness, he was appropriately smug and I also felt the urge to make my foot connect with his chin, but I just can't get his Batang PX days out of my head, making him forever a child actor in my mind, even if he has already spawned a son with Jennylyn Mercado.

- Tetchie Agbayani as Ces' mom was spot-on casting, but her motherly advice that made Ces take a 160 degree turn was a little too contrived and hurried. Nothing beats "One More Chance"'s ending in my book because it acknowledged the need for time to heal emotional wounds.
- Where was Dimples Romana? Isn't there a Star Cinema rule somewhere that Dimples Romana has to be a best friend/ ex-girlfriend/ sister/ niece/ teacher/ officemate in every Star Cinema movie?
- Why Manila Bulletin? And what sort of newspaper would allow a yearbook like entry in its front page? Oh, Manila Bulletin would. Considering that this was the newspaper that carried a headline of "Thousands flock to first night of simbang gabi" when the ZTE scandal broke in 2008, I had a hard time believing that Angel was a serious journalist.
In a nutshell, I had a good laugh watching "Unofficially Yours" but found the ending too strained. Go see it nonetheless because John Lloyd and Angel are simply luminous and the supporting cast provides a barrel and half of laughs and the requisite heart.
