Shower Scene

By Jillsabs - Posted on 14 June 2010

There really is no need to elaborate on the innate differences between men and women. You only have to look at their shower paraphernalia to see that there is indeed a great divide.

Here are my shower stuff.

And these are his.

Notice the overwhelming disparity between our products?

What really bothers me is that those products are already pared down because I left so much more in my parents' house (i.e. body scrubs, hair mask, face mask etc). That's already my version of a streamlined collection of products.

My go-to bath time products, in no particular order, are:

Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Pantene Anti-Dandruff and Sunsilk

I always have a bottle of Johnson's Baby Shampoo  on hand because it  doubles as a makeup brush cleaner. I rarely use it  on its own though and usually have to pair it with a conditioner because used by itself, it leaves my hair feeling dry and crunchy.

I used to be a big Head and Shoulders fan, but when I saw that Pantene had its own anti-dandruff shampoo, I immediately made the big switch because Pantene for me is the top drugstore shampoo. And now it even had an anti-dandruff variant so goodbye menthol candy smelling hair and hello glam smelling locks!

Somebody left this bottle of Sunsilk shampoo in my old bathroom so I scooped it up because it smells amazing. It has yogurt which I don't know  how it's supposed to help hair, but I guess that's what makes it extra sudsy.

Olive Shampoo and Conditioner

My cousin left these behind when she left for Cebu (and ultimately Fiji) because of baggage restrictions. I'm glad she did though because, again, they smell great and do not give me flakes. I also love the pump bottle, it feels so parlor-ish.

Dove Body Wash, Johnson's Milk Bath and Pure Fiji Body Scrub

The Dove Body Wash actually feels more like shampoo than a body wash, maybe that's why it hydrates skin like crazy, making body lotions optional. And it smells fantastic! The Go Fresh variety was such a big help when summer was at its craziest.

I know it says "Top to Toe Wash" on the bottle, but that's really filled with Milk Bath. Again, I like the pump bottle and how can you go wrong with bathing in milk right?

The Pure Fiji body scrub is another hand me down from my cousin (dang those baggage restrictions!) and it's the most luxurious and most fragrant bath product I have ever tried. I dread the day when it runs out because this isn't available locally. I presume someone out there in Fiji will know what to get me when she comes back to the Philippines? :)

Cetaphil, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, PanOxyl Acnegel

I tend to stick to the basics when it comes to my face, my years of battling acne has taught me to lay off from too much products because they might just cause an unpleasant reaction.

My facial wash is Cetaphil then I treat existing spots with benzoyl peroxide, finally, I slather on sunblock before heading out the door.

So do I have too much products or does he just have too little? I think I'll go with the latter:p

I actually noticed that the more I pared down, the better my skin became. When I used a 3-step system a pimple would sprout every week at least. When I switched to an organic cleanser and a simple moisturizer, zits only come out during my period or when I don't wash my face.

Your comparison pictures are very funny! :)

Hi Shasta!

What cleanser and moisturizer do you use?

I use diluted Dr. Bronner's soap (lavender smells lovely but peppermint is also fantastic) and Leyende Face Canvass, though I'm making do with this Cetaphil moisturizer right now just to clear out the space.

I used to use Dr. Bronner too. It was such a convenient all around wash. I think I'll get a bottle once my shower caddy frees up :)

He has too little, of course! Boys will be boys! =P When I met my BF, all he had were germicidal soap, anything shampoo (because he always have shaved head), and a deodorant. But sorry to him, because now, I require him to use a lot of new products alien to him, even eyebag rollers! =D

Hi Dang,

What eyebag rollers is that? Maybe I can get my hubby to use it for his dark undereye circles:p

haha! because the space allotted for toiletries in the luggage have been occupied by tiangge stuff...

i agree, i love the olive oil shampoo and conditioner from watson's. it's not heavy, just right for fine hair, even in humid climates.

i'm glad you like the scrub! we'll see how we can send some when we go to the factory. it's expensive in the stores :p

That factory is every kikay's dream spot!

My boy has about the same number of bottles as I do on his arsenal, which makes him the yummiest-smelling guy I have ever smelled in my life (a point I always, always consider). I just love the fact he knows all these on his own and not needing my help. :)

Product fiends should definitely stick together :)

it was the same for me, he had shampoo, a bar of soap and his shaver. As the years go by and i started observing his lifestyle more intimately, i considered his problems (i.e. shaving burns, oily skin, the need to exfoliate) and slowly introduced him to certain products. if he liked it, we kept it and if not i didn't push it. now he has a better shaver, shaving cream, moisturizer, toner, and facial wash (for men). now he has even nicer skin :)

Hi Maiko, There's really nothing to change in his skin care routine because he has way better skin than I do.

Although he's been complaining about the bar of soap (I think it's Dove as well) because it's too moisture-y, hence girly. He says he needs a manly man bar of soap:p

My boyfriend's skin care routine consists of Safeguard and water. His skin is way better than mine. :(

Hi Lauren,

Same with me and my hubby, very very sad and ironic :(
