Lace and Ruffles from Topshop

By Jillsabs - Posted on 05 February 2010

I won some gift certificates during my previous employer's Christmas party, and so when I found myself at the mall, in front of the Topshop boutique with huge sale signs plastered all over its windows, I knew it was time to redeem them gift certificates.

Topshop has never really appealed to me in the same way that Zara and Mango have. The two Spanish brands usually carry classics in somber colors, while the English brand is edgy and fun. Sadly, I am neither edgy nor fun so I found it difficult to choose from the selection of leather looking leggings, assymetrical shirts, boldly floral dresses and other hip Agnes Deyn type clothing and accessories.

I eventually zeroed in on this peach, lacy mini dress and knew that my boyfriend would flip  over it, but not in the good way. He's been trying to wean me from my ruffles obsession and here I am buying something ruffly AND lacy to boot:p

Anyway, I think the saccharine factor is amply toned down with the low neckline and high hemline. Remind me to shave and moisturize my legs though before stepping out in this dress.

I'm wearing it here now with my black slingback pumps. I think that something higher and strappier would be a better foil to the frilly effect of the dress, but I gave up f*ck me shoes after a "magpakatotoo ka" moment where I finally admitted that I will never be a vampy and stilettos type of girl, and will have to be simply satisfied with flats and rubber shoes.

I also have gift certificates from Crossings and I went to the Shangrila and Glorietta branches for some retail therapy. But sadly, even with those two branches I was unable to choose anything. Maybe I was just overwhelmed with visiting two malls in a single day? Oh well, next time then :)

Ooh, I noticed this dress at Topshop last December. Kind of wish I bought it then. :\

Hi Lauren,

Maybe it's still there, and if it is, then it's probably on sale too :)

hi!I also bought a dress from topshop. It's a very light pink chiffon dress. I'm having a hard time choosing my shoes though. I could wear something black kinda vampy shoes pair it with black belt but I don't think it's appropriate for a formal wedding. Any suggestions?

Hi Arlene,

I find that as long as you're not part of the wedding party, it's ok to not wear a long gown to a wedding:p

Of course, jeans are still a no-no, or anything similarly informal.

Just play it by ear when deciding whether or not your light pink chiffon dress will be proper for a wedding. Or ask for a second opinion from a trusted friend.

Hope I was able to help!

You look good in the dress. I was wondering where are the shoes from? ( :

Hi AJ,

The slingbacks are from Step Rite, a shoe store inside BF Homes Paranaque. Please read about the past post on Step Rite here: http://kikay.exchange.ph/2006/09/14/step-rite
