My 2010 Kikay Resolutions

Every year, I come up with the usual ambitious list of resolutions, and every year I break my resolutions, making it essentially a list of frustrations and/or failures. However, old habits die hard and so I still found myself with a list of resolutions 2010, but none of that life changing, self improvement shtick anymore because I'm much wiser now and I have finally acknowledge that you don't mess with perfection... :p
This year I vow or at least try my darndest to do the following:
-
Wear more dresses. Most of the dresses in my closet have only been worn once or not at all, but my pants are already showing signs of overuse. I guess I can say that I wear pants because they're comfortable and I don't have to be conscious of my movements in them, which are both true of course, but I also wear pants a lot because I'm sometimes too lazy to shave my legs. Ulp. This year, the razor will have a more prominent spot on my bathroom sink.
These are the types of dresses I tend to gravitate towards. Solid colors without any frills.

But I think it's time I become a little more playful in my dress choices and wear something like this balloon skirted dress.

Or channel some downtime flair with this polka-dotted number.

-
Wear red lipstick. Ok, so it sounds simple enough right? What's so difficult about wearing red lipstick? Well, if you're me then EVERYTHING.
Somehow, I'm intimidated with crimson lips because my lips might not be able to stand all the attention that a fire engine red lipstick is sure to generate. And how do you know which shade of red looks best on you? And how can you ensure that the color won't feather after a few hours? So many issues that my trusty lip balms and lip glosses do not burden me with!

But red lips are just so sexy and vampy... and what girl hasn't dreamed of becoming as alluring as Angelina Jolie right? So note to self, swipe on some red lipstick and stop being such a wuss.

Stick with a skin regimen. I've been on the Dan Kern Regimen for about a week now and so far so good (Thanks Jason for the tip!)
The Dan Kern Regimen is really nothing more than paring down your skin routine to: (1) gentle cleanser, (2) benzoyl peroxide and (3) moisturizer.

The secret behind the Regimen is not in the products used but in how they're used and the quantity applied. I've been using benzoyl peroxide for years now to spot treat pimples, but under the Regimen, benzoyl peroxide is applied liberally on the skin, like you would a moisturizer. Yes, that much.
I'll have a follow-up post after I've been on the Regimen for a month or so because I'm still too embarrassed to show my pimply, non-made up face here. Hopefully, by then, I'll have a marvelous skin success story to share with all of you :)

I'll try this regimen. I've been using BPO but only to spot treat pimples. What moisturizer and facial cleanser do you use? I'm currently using olay but the site says olay is not recommended because it contains avobenzone?
Hi Tiara,
I use cetaphil as my cleanser, then in the morning I use VMV moisturizer and then Celeteque moisturizer at night :)
Hey! I've been doing the "Dan Kern Regimen" for quite some time and I didn't even realize there was a name for it! Hehehe...
I stopped for a few months because I got curious and tried other products and tried to shift to another regimen, but I just broke out. As in cystic pimples galore. Huhu... Now, I'm back to the old regimen and my skin is slowly starting to clear up. =)
I made a mistake when I purchased BP last night though... I bought the 10% Benzac one. Waaah! Maybe I'll just use that for spot treatment. Will buy a 2.5% when I get my salary. Hehe.
Oh! I've also started purchasing more dresses this year! =D
I've also tried the Dan Kern regimen and it worked for me for some time. It's really effective and made me significantly clearer, but then after a while my skin got irritated with too much BP! I was following instructions too and using 2.5% and a good moisturizer. I reduced BP application to nightly usage and it worked fine then. Not stellar, but fine. But now I'm on Proactiv, which also has BP as the main ingredient, but it works so much better for me. :) No irritation whatsoever, their BP gel is so gentle! Sucks that it's way more expensive though.
i'd love to wear more dresses (and skirts) too but unfortunately, i commute everyday. and that involves using the pedestrian overpass (i have to be really careful so as not to give people a free show). i also get too self-conscious and violated when strangers/tambays hoot at me or whatever. there are just too many pervs nowadays. i only wear them to parties/special occasions.
the bp regimen really works for me. i do it whenever i get the occasional zit/s. my face clears up within 3 days to a week. i use cetaphil cleanser, panoxyl 2.5% gel and iwhite aqua moisturizer.
as for my own kikay resolution, i'm currently obsessed with silver eyeshadow and eyeliner. i also intend to use silk pillowcases because it (supposedly) makes hair less frizzy and minimizes facial lines. maybe you should make a review about that. :) Happy New Year!
Hi Ojouprincess,
I read that about silk pillows too. Sounds interesting, and luxurious!!
a derma once told me to use bp for the whole face. BP for your skin everyday is not good. to the entire face that is. did it dati. my skin is still reddish up to now. maybe because i was also using a strong cleanser at that time. i consulted another derma and said that BP is only for spot treatment, i never told her that another derma had advised me to apply it on my whole face.
Hi Michelle,
What BP formulation did you use? The Regimen uses the mildest formulation, 2.5%
i want to wear them also =)
I love those dresses that you've featured (all of them!).
Although I have a problem with my legs. I have a big set of legs :(
There was this time I went to a store here and asked for a pair of trousers. You know what? The store assistant said, my buttocks were big and my legs too!
If I was told about this a few years back, I would have been hurt but I was just laughing it off when I left the store.
Yikes! that SA must be averse to making a sale:p
But cheers for your healthy self-esteem! I probably would have shot her a withering look and stomped out of the store if she told me that (yup, I have very low EQ).
Where could i get that BP Gel you displayed? And how much? Thankyou.
Hi Camille,
Panoxyl is an OTC drugstore brand. The big tube costs Php400++. There are also other BP brands available and I think they're all equally good.
Hindi ba nakakatakot to use BP in that quantity?
According to the site, peeling and redness are to be expected from BP use. But I haven't experienced that, probably because I've been using BP for years now so my skin has adjusted to it. After a few days of using BP, my skin felt a little tight so that's when I used moisturizer:p
Omg, I love that polkadot dress. Absolutely gorgeous! Good luck with your resolutions! I think mine will have to be to dress with less frills, haha.
Where do you buy your dresses? I love your style! so fun :)
I've also been using Acne.org's regimen for the past 2 months, so far so good. But as with any beauty regimen, if you skip and forget one application, it will have ugly results. Although once you continue, your face will become relatively clear again.
I've been very religious with the Regimen naman, I really, really want to blast these pimples away na:p
But seriously, even if you miss just one application, the pimples will come back again?
