The Canyon Cove Contingency

By Florence - Posted on 20 November 2009

My title may lead one to imagine an exciting adventure of some sort but the opposite is actually true. While the nation was transfixed with the National Fist the other weekend, we hied off to Canyon Cove on the strength of a friend's recommendation for 24 hours of r&r. The following ensued.

A variety of safe water sports are available.
Rooms start at 5k+- overnight + breakfast with additional 1k increments for 2 bigger rooms. There's a fairly delicious p600 / head buffet, but I think you can still order separately.

There are enormous pools kids and not so kids can enjoy, and even a separate pool for condo owners, the restriction we only learned of after being informed by a nervous looking (but to his credit, quite polite) security guard. We shall therefore forever refer to the pool this next pic was taken in as 'the forbidden waters'.

Guests are mostly harrassed parents, wild kids plus yayas and a few stray foreigners, all looking to get away from it all. There weren't a whole lot fortunately, so there's still lots of spare space for everyone.

Canyon Cove is a vast property of which I assume less than 40% is actually utilized. The rest are condominuim property run down after years of non-use. While enjoying the very comfortable room, you can't help but gape and feel sorry for those large, abandoned 5 story buildings a hundred meters away, and wonder how much money was lost there.

For the most part however, Canyon Cove is a nice hideaway to spend a quiet weekend. Pluses are the worry free 40 minute drive from Tagaytay, white (but stony) beach and amenities, while minuses are minor, like the lack of slippers and a bathrobe, and the harrassed front desk. We give it a 7 out of 10. To get in touch with them, here's the link again.

Hi Anon,

Please click on the link provided for full details of the resort.

I think it's also written there that the overnight accommodations start at Php5,000.00++. We didn't try the water sports so can't comment on that.

Thanks for visiting Kikay Exchange!
