The New Macs

If you can ignore the fact this was over a week ago (sorry!), Apple recently launched a bunch of new Macs to counter the Windows 7 launch. Starting with:

The new Macbook and comes with a faster processor and all, but the innovative stuff has to do with a brighter display and a tougher polycarbonate unibody that's a blessing for the clumsy amongst us. Other than slightly smoother corners it's about the same size and weight as the previous model so you probably won't notice any difference. This is one of those cases where the changes are within. It goes for P54,990.

There are 4 new iMacs differing in either monitor size, video card and processors, going for as low as P65,990 to P108,990. Those prices might make you gasp, but they're actually cheaper than the older iMacs when they were launched, and at the same time have more power than ever.

The Mac Mini is a tiny little thing but frankly maintains everything you need to run a typical desktop up to a server for the office. Of course it has better specs than the last model, but as with the other launched models the emphasis is on how green it is, taking up far less space and energy than a comparable PC. The Mac OS Snow Leopard actually comes out as a practical buy since it comes with pretty much everything one needs as well.

A totally new thing launched was the Magic Mouse, which you definitely have to try first to understand. It's got the ability to 'pan', 'swipe' and use 'intuitive gestures' mainly by your finger on top of the mouse. I only got a minute to try it, so the jury's out. When next you pass by an Apple Store give it a try. It cost P3,490.
