Amazing Ayala Cebu

By Jillsabs - Posted on 14 October 2009

Every time I go to Cebu for a vacation, I go straight to my lolo's house in Moalboal. I figured, what was the point in staying in the city when the beach was calling my name. So you can just imagine my surprise when I saw the new (well at least for me) Ayala Terraces a few weeks back.

This was so not the Ayala Cebu mall I grew up with! There was a park and fountains and public performances! Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore:p

And I never thought I would ever see a Starbucks in Cebu because we Cebuanos are known for being "tihik" (cheapskates) and no way would a 200p mug of coffee survive the Cebuano wrath. Times are indeed changing, and there are now several Starbucks branches in Cebu City.

Oh, and there's also Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, as well as Seattle's Best, in  Ayala Terraces too. Are you gonna take this sitting down Bo?!

I was ecstatic to see Fully Booked. I can now see myself reading a book there, gazing at the gorgeous garden and sipping my (twice refilled) Starbucks tea.

Inside the mall, I was comforted to see that my regular haunts were still up and about. Loalde has always been one of my favorite stores while growing up because it represented the successful career woman in my young and impressionable mind. But now that I'm actually working, I realize that Loalde's collection is not really very corporate after all, however, I still love their window displays.

I bet that with my now frequent Cebu trips, I'll grow immune to the Terrace's charm soon enough. But for now let me just say two things: (1) Thank you Ayala corporation for this gorgeous spread! and (2) Wow.

try mo din hukad and casa verde for the baby back ribs. lahat yan sa terraces.

like ko lang outside ng ayala mall...yung inside ng mall nila--some parts need renovation. Moon Cafe is ox lang and i agree with you medyo maingay. basta try lemon grass and order the citrus and herb lemonade.

try the gelato din near seattle's. sayang lang walang pang frozen yogurt dun. as of the last july...baka now meron na.

ok, puro foodie recommendations na ito. teehee.

Thanks for all the foodie recommendations!! I'm definitely trying out lemon grass this weekend :)

Davaoenos are more tihik than Cebuanos. They'll try a restaurant once and never frequent it, unless they really, REALLY love it. hehe

try the lemon grass restaurant if you haven't. yum!

Hi Macy,

Thanks for the tip!

I've tried Sunburst (way better than Max!) and Moon cafe (good food but super noisy restaurant!), and I'll definitely try out Lemon Grass the next time I'm back in Cebu, which is in a few days:p

Clems, mas type ko ang Ayala Center Cebu compared to the Ayala malls here. Mas homey, parang US style malls.

I love the food there…favorite ko rin yung Sunburst and this bulalo place (nakalimutan ko yung pangalan). And also this dessert place (nakalimutan ko rin pangalan)…basta malapit sa isang spa at Icebergs na branch.

Punta ulit akong Cebu near Christmas time, will you be there also?

Are you talking about Abuhan? Abuhan is pretty much known in Cebu to have the best pochero & sizzling bulalo o pochero ba yun hehe. The best is Abuhan Uno.

Hi Mel-Mel,

I'm not yet sure if we'll be going to Cebu for Christmas, my family doesn't plan that far ahead:p

correction, Cebu has more than 5 Starbucks branches:

@Ayala, @SM, @IT Park, @Club Ultima, @Pag-ibig Mandaue, etc.

Ooops! I'll correct the post now :)

Thanks!

Saw this mall last week when I went to cebu.. Really nice, in a way that almost all Ayala malls look nice. Kind of like a cross between Trinome and Glorietta/greenbelt. Not that much people when we went but it was a weekday and it wasn't even lunch time yet.
