An Ode to Outlet Shopping

woodbury

Fact is, outlet shopping has officially spoiled me. After my second time shopping at an outlet mall, I'm just about ready to say "Retail price? What's that?"

The first outlet mall I went to was the Allen Premium Outlets, in Dallas, Texas, which was a part of the Chelsea Premium Outlets.

The stores formed a circle around the parking lot and I hurriedly went from one store to another because my cousin was just waiting for me in the car while I did my shopping. I ended up buying only two pairs of shoes from Nine West (which had a Buy One Take One at 50% off promo) for about $60. Not bad eh?

The next outlet mall I went to was Woodbury Common Premium Outlets which was about an hour and a half away from New York City. This time around, all of my companions were in a shopping mood so there was no need to rush our shopping :)

Unlike the outlets in Allen, the outlets in Woodbury did not encircle the parking lot, rather, they were spread in an orderly way, making shopping more convenient because you didn't have to go across the parking lot (in the desert heat) or go around the whole block in case you changed your mind and wanted that blouse after all.

gap

I immediately made a beeline to Gap and Banana Republic, stores which rarely have sales in the Philippines or if they do, would be at a "generous" 30% off from selected items. But there's no such limitation in the outlet world, instead you'll have all items at 30% off with an additional 20% off because we went during a national holiday (President's Day). Lovely :)I bought two striped long sleeved blouses from the Gap and a pair of pants and another blouse from Banana Republic all for the utterly ridiculous price of $60++.

wheelie

Some of the more serious shoppers brought their own bags because they knew better than the rest of us who had to carry plastic bags around the whole afternoon. Note to self: Bring own wheelie bag next time around.

coach

The most popular store there was the Coach outlet which had a line outside. I guess if you're willing to brave such a line in the cold, you're probably a Serious Sally and not just a Lookie Lucy. Judging from the Coach paper bags I saw all over Woodbury, there were definitely a lot of Serious Sallys that day. Hoorary for doing our part in propping up the US economy! :)

So now that I know better and am infinitely wiser, next time I visit the US, I'll save all my shopping for the outlet stores. Paying for retail is sooo last season!:p

mel-mel: there was an esprit outlet in woodbury. i went inside but didn't buy anything because the items in gap were nicer and more suitable for philippine weather. esprit only had sweaters and thick shirts, while gap had cotton shirts.

candice: didn't go inside the chanel store :( i don't even think i saw it, woodbury was so big!

kendall: i went during the president's day weekend. i think coach had a major sale that's why there was a long line outside. but like your friend, i'm also not into bags and purses so i'm not gonna stand in line for 15 minutes in the freezing cold just to look at bags when there are more interesting things for me in the area.

rosa: please see above:p

it was sooo cold that day! buti sana if there wasn't a line, i might have snuck in to take a look. but with that line, no way was i gonna suffer just to look at bags.

char: i don't think i noticed the kenneth cole outlet too:p my priorities that day were:

1) Nike outlet
2) kids shoes
3) Gap and Banana Rep

I also went to Longchamp but the pliages weren't on sale so I didn't get the urge to buy. sniff.

I loved shopping in Woodbury! Funny though, there was no line outside (like in your pic) in Coach when I went. I realized I missed shopping there when I saw your post. Hope you went to Kenneth Cole. Got $10 leather belts there.

Holy crap! It's a small world! Were you there this past Saturday 2/21? What was going in COACH? My friend was with me but she's not interested in purses or makeup, lol and she wasn't going to "find out" with me. Write me back if you know. I was soo mad that I couldn't find out what was going on! I'm going back, it was too much ground to cover in one day!

Sigh...I love outlet shopping!

Coach is always a prime target for bargain shoppers kasi ang laki ng discount. And they sell stuff that are still in retail stores! Pero kahit may discount, mahal pa rin if converted to pesos.

My favorite outlet stores aside from the trio of Banana Rep-GAP-Old Navy are J. Crew (which is expensive peso-wise in their retail outlets), Maidenform (quality cheap undies), Nine West (but of course!) and Esprit (but I think they only have outlet stores in California)
