Best Movies of 2007

no-country-for-old-men-175-x-258.jpgThe best flick of 2007 according to the Associate Press is "No Country for Old Men". David Germain of AP describes "Old Men" as: With weird hair and businesslike savagery, Javier Bardem could teach Hannibal Lecter a thing or three about pitiless bloodletting. Bardem as a killer, Tommy Lee Jones as a wayworn lawman and Josh Brolin as a good old boy who stumbles on a fortune in drug money are one of the great triumvirates of modern film. Aided by cinematographer Roger Deakins' desolate landscapes, Joel and Ethan Coen bring Cormac McCarthy's Texas crime saga to life with all the regional authenticity they applied to their Minnesota tale "Fargo." Has this been shown here yet? I don't remember seeing it in the theaters, although I haven't really gone to the theaters that much the last year so I won't be surprised if it did :p
My guilty pleasures are zombie and slasher movies. Although weirdly enough, I prefer watching my zombie movies inside a movie theater and my slasher flicks in the safety of my house. I still haven't psychoanalyzed why I prefer it this way. According to the (very brief) synopsis, "Old Men" is about a serial killer (a slasher flick!) with some drugs thrown in. I'm sure my boyfriend will love it and I'll take the risk of watching it in a movie house because the best movie of 2007 deserves to be watched on the big screen and not to be purchased through your friendly dibidi seller. The AP Movie Writer David Germain's complete list goes as follows:
  1. No Country for Old Men
  2. Once
  3. Juno
  4. Away From Her
  5. Into the Wild
  6. American Gangster
  7. Stardust
  8. Starting Out in the Evening
  9. The Band's Visit
  10. Year of the Dog
While AP Movie Critic Christy Lemire's choices are:
  1. No Country for Old Men
  2. Gone Baby Gone
  3. Once
  4. Knocked Up
  5. Away From Her
  6. There Will Be Blood
  7. The Lives of Others
  8. Lars and the Real Girl
  9. Into the Wild
  10. The Bourne Ultimatum

I read the No Country for Old Men is really violent so I'm wondering if it would be shown here without cuts. Half if not most of those movies in the list haven't reached our neck of the woods, unfortunately. By the time, they do get here they are already 'old news', making you feel like you were hiding under a rock living a hermit's life and totally isolated from the rest of the world. Not fun! hehe

I want to watch "Juno" because "George Michael" of Arrested Development is the young father there. I love George Michael! I can't believe Arrested Development is gone :(

Regarding ruins (it's actually Good Shepherd Bazaar na, but i think everyone still calls it ruins :p) I bought the incomplete second season on Ugly Betty there just last week. Grabe no, everything you want is in ruins talaga.

No Country for Old Men has not been shown here yet. The other tough competitors for the Oscar Best Picture (There Will Be Blood, Juno, Michael Clayton, Atonement, Into the Wild) have not been shown here as well. But most of them can be bought in “ruins” already.
